The How And Why Wonder Book Of The Civil War (1961) By Earl Schenck Miers
1961 marked the Centennial Year of the Civil War, so the publication was particularly appropriate. Personal and military strengths of both sides are portrayed as they had a bearing on the outcome of the war.
Each of the 'The How and Why Wonder Book' series of books has been written by an expert in his field, and the entire series has been edited under the supervision of Dr. Paul Blackwood, Specialist in Elementary Science for the United States Department of Health, Education and Welfare. In addition, all of the text and art have been reviewed and approved for accuracy by Oakes A. White of the Brooklyn Children's Museum. Earl Schenck Miers (1910-1972) was an American historian. He wrote over 100 books, mostly about the history of the American Civil War. He started writing with a typewriter while he was a child in school, as his cerebral palsy prevented his ability to write with a pencil.
