Silent Victory: Invasion Of Britain 1940 (1959) By Duncan Grinnell-Milne

A number of books in recent years have taken the position that the German plan to invade England was defeated by the continued presence of the Royal Navy in the English Channel and the bombed citizens of London and other bombed cities, not the Royal Air Force as Winston Churchill and many subsequent writers would have you believe. The author, an RAF veteran himself, very effectively makes this point with this book published in 1958. It is surprising that it has not had a wider audience or been reviewed previously. The author makes a very good case for the true victor of the Battle of Britain (stopping the invasion, not the bombing) being the Royal Navy. The title refers to the Royal Navy's silence regarding the impossibility of a successful invasion while British warships sailed the Channel.
