Over-Sexed, Over-Paid, And Over Here: Americans in Australia 1941-1945 (1981) By John Hammond Moore
This is an account of the American occupation of Australia, especially during the hectic months of 1942, when the Japanese and violence loomed large and awesome. At the beginning of the year, the Americans were welcomed as saviours. By September the mood had changed.
The Coral Sea and Medway battles had given Australia a sense of confidence which made the Americans seem not quite so necessary. People were becoming resentful of the way the Americans appear to be taking over everything from the prime real estate to all the taxis and most of the girls. Before long as saying was going the rounds that there were three things wrong with the Yanks: they were "overpaid, oversexed, and over here".
