Focke-Wulf: An Aircraft Album (1973) By J. Richard Smith

An aircraft album. A history of the Focke Wulf company, including the Condor and the Fw 190.

The fame of the Focke-Wulf company rests mainly on the design of two aircraft, the Condor and the Fw 190. Until the 1930s the name of the company was frequently confused with that of the Dutch Fokker factory, but the arrival of Kurt Tank changed all that. He began the design of such remarkable products as the Fw 56 Stosser, the Fw 58 Weihe and the Fw 200 Condor four-engined airliner which established several world records. But it was the Fw 190 that was the company's most successful product; perhaps the most perfect radial-engined fighter ever built. This book describes the little-known early products of Focke-Wulf, the arrival of Kurt Tank, the remarkable aircraft produced by him including a number of advanced jet fighter projects, and the re-establishment of the company after the war as the Vereinigte Flugtechnische Werke. Mention is also made of the pioneering work carried out by Professor Heinrich Focke in the field of helicopter design.
