Black Jack: The Life and Times of Brigadier Sir Frederick Galleghan (1983) By Stan Arneil

"Black Jack" Galleghan who fought in two world wars and held commissioned rank for 50 years. His military career was punctuated with bitter clashes with the top brass - many of whom he did not like much. In his last command, he staged the biggest ambush on WW2 resulting in 1000 Japanese soldiers being killed. For this he received the very rare distinction of getting a commendation from the Japanese High Command. As a POW, he maintained strict discipline and was held in high regard, even awe, by the Japanese.
