Albury At War 1914-1919 (2015) By Douglas Hunter
This book is a history of Albury, a regional town in NSW, and its surrounding district during the Great War 1914-1918. It tells the story of the people, and the way in which they managed the great enterprise of a war totally beyond their experience, and equally beyond the experience of the nation. Undaunted, they collected names of volunteers at the Drill Hall, established a sewing circle at the Town Hall and raised extraordinary sums of money for the patriotic funds. They devoured letters from 'the boys' training in Egypt, boys eager to be at the front. When the reality of war came, the town and its surrounding district absorbed the shock of casualties and stiffened their resolve to reinforce and support their men at the front. It is a noble story and a privilege to tell.
